Chants Dominate CoC To Lock Up SELC NE Region

In a rare away game played at home, the Coastal Carolina Men's Club Lacrosse team dressed in all black uniforms and took the field against their Northeast Region foe, College of Charleston. The Chants rebounded from the 0-2 homestead they had the week prior with a dominate 19-8 Win over the Cougars.

The Chanticleers saw 3 different players record 4 goals on the night led by Sophomore Attackman Nick Aquino who paired his 4 goals with 3 assists for a total of 7 points on the night. Junior Attackman Ryan Slane and Sophomore Midfielder Alec Mastroine rounded out the threesome who notched 4 goals a piece. Junior Midfielder Jake Freedman had a breakout night recording his first points of the season by netting 2 goals. Sophomore Attackman Derek Jackson backed up his first goal of the year against Appalachian State a week prior by burying a goal against Charleston to open the scoring for the Chants. Freshman Attackman Nick Maldari continued his stellar rookie year by recording 3 points (1G, 2A) and classmate Mike Hilland also chipped in on the night with a goal and 9 face-off wins. Sophomore Attackman Harry Staley also found his way back into the score book with one goal on the night. Not to be outdone, Senior LSM Sam Wheatley rounded out the scoring by carrying the ball coast to coast and burying a shot for his first goal on the season.

Senior Goalie August Schoenfelder had another stellar day between the pipes turning away 22 shots on way to a 71% save percentage.

With the win, the Coastal Carolina University Men's Club Lacrosse team secured the top seed in the SELC Northeast Region and a return trip to Johns Creek GA and the SELC tournament, a first since 2009. The SELC tournament will begin Friday April 21st with the Championship game to be played Sunday April 23rd. For more information about the SELC tournament, click here.
