Chants Fall in First Round of SELC Playoffs

In their first trip to the SELC playoffs since 2009, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers fell to the Cougars of Columbus State University, 10-8. The game, which was played at Northview High School in Johns Creek, GA, was a rematch of a game played back on March 18 which saw the Chants escape with a 12-11 victory.

The Chants took 38 shots on the day but were only able to net 8 of them lead by Junior Attackman Ryan Slane who found the back of the goal 3 times on the day along with dishing out one assist. Sophomore Attackman Nick Aquino also recorded 4 points on the day with a goal and three assists. Rounding out the attack line, Freshman Nick Maldari also notched 2 goals. Junior Nate Ryan returned to the scoring column with a stinger of a shot off an Aquino feed late in the third quarter. Sophomore Midfielder Harry Staley rounded out the goal scorers notching one on the day.

Freshman Midfielder Mike Hilland took all the face-offs on the day finishing 12-22. Senior Goalie August Schoenfelder turned away 13 shots while allowing all 10 of the Cougars goals and took the loss on the day.

The Chants wrapped up their 2017 campaign with an overall record of 4-5 and 2-0 in Region.
